How exercise can help stop panic attacks and anxiety attacks

By admin | Mar 30, 2009

Anxiety disorders can create a very low self-esteem, as I have learned from personal, and bitter, experience.

People with anxiety disorders are convinced they are different, and not in a positive way either. They can feel that people think them strange, possibly wierd even, and they feel almost unclean as a result. Their personal esteem takes a huge nosedive, and this can, as a consequence, cause people to become introverted. They can even become agoraphobic, which causes them to be housebound, which actually only exacerbates the condition as they are now trapped, devoid of the one thing they need i.e. the help and contact of others.

In order to find a cure for any anxiety disorder, you first need to find out what is causing it. Be aware that usually there is more than one root cause, and they will all need addressing. Once the root cause, or causes, are discovered, then you can work on getting rid of them, forever.

There are many factors which can contribute towards anxiety disorders, and generally it is a combination of these factors which need addressing. It is my personal experience that it is rarely just one factor which needs treating, but usually a number of them.

You can go a long way towards a cure by addressing such issues as diet, sleep and exercise. These are called lifestyle factors, and whereas there are other lifestyle issues which may come into play such as work or family, those first 3 issues tend to play a major part in the condiiton of most people.

I have huge faith in the value of any anxiety disorder sufferer taking up exercise, no matter how modest the form of that exercise. What it does for both the body and the mind is inestimable, and I say that with a lot of feeling as it many times lifted me when I was really down on the proverbial floor.

I know that anxiety sufferers generally have very bad sleep patterns, which of course can make the problem even worse, as you will never feel refreshed, but forever be tired. Exercise can help the sleeping process in a big way as it will tire you in a positive way, and the exercise itself is even mentally relaxing. I know you may fnd that difficut to comprehend if you do not have your own regime, but trust me when I say it is true. In addition, weight control comes into the argument, the outcome of that helping with the personal self-esteem. Exercise is the best “medication” I ever encountered, but I am aware that is a very personal thing. We are all different.

I proved this to myself time and time again, both whilst out running, and also whilst in the gym. The other benefits are that the person is actually getting out, and is seen to be out. In addition, they will not just develop a better image about themselves again, but will find friends and family will do the same thing because of their exercise regime. People will even start to look up to them, and again, let’s all be totally honest about such a thing, and throw false modesty out of the window, that can be a huge boost to the personal self-esteem.

There is no need for someone to suddenly decide they are going to become a marathon runner overnight, as even the most modest of programs will produce huge results. My personal recommendation is to take up running, because of what it did for me, but not everyone will be able to do that, and I want to repeat, it is not necessary.

The same recommendation applies to joining a sports club or local gym, where not only will one be getting the benefit of the exercise, but will also be back amongst people again, making new friends and contacts.

One of my close colleagues joined a local pool club and said it was a great help to him, even though we all know that pool is not the hardest exercise anyone will ever undertake. Again, the social side was a great asset to him just in getting him out.

I guess most people will understand how exercise of any sort benefits the body in a big way, and how it also can boost the immune system. However, it is the good feeling generated within which is the key here, and what that does to one’s feel of worth and self-esteem, something totally lacking in a lot of anxiety sufferers.

I would personally go as far as to say that were it not for my own exercise regime, I am really not sure if I would have made it out of the mental morass I had gotten myself into.

My sleeping improved, I have been able to control my weight, and also have learned both how to eat better, and more healthily. This in turn has all contributed to my physical well-being, which has had a big impact on my view of myself. I became not just pleased with myself, but secretly proud of what I was achieving.

I was achieving things which few people ever achieve, simply because so few people ever exercise. Knowing I was able to do that with the disorder I had, lifted me enormously.

It really makes no difference if someone has never exercised in years because, as I have stated in this article, even the most modest form of exercise program can have huge benefits. I have proven to myself, and also through what I have seen others do, just how beneficial exercise can be to the anxiety disorder sufferer. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Go ahead, take that first step, you will never look back.

There are many factors which can contribute towards someone having a disorder, and we know for sure that a lack of exercise, irregular sleeping patterns and a poor diet are some of those factors. By addressing exercise on its own, the other two fall into line as I have explained above. And, if they are the root cause, or causes, of the ailment, then by taking that first exercise program step, that individual is on the pathway to their own personal cure. To coin the old advertising slogan - Just do it!. It is something you will never regret.

Avoid Dairy Products To Prevent Cancer

By admin | Mar 30, 2009

Prof. Jane Plant, PhD, CBE is one of the many women who battled against breast cancer and survived to tell the tale. She has endured five cases of breast cancer and has surpassed all of them. This happened because she used her keen observation as a scientist to discover what has been causing her cancer.

By the way, Prof. Jane is Chinese but has been living in the UK ever since she moved. What did she discover in her observation from her own breast cancer case? She discovered that dairy products have a direct link in causing her cancer. How did she do this? Well, she closely studied the differences between the Western countries and the Asian countries regular kind of foods.

She noticed that most foods found in the Western hemisphere are mostly composed of dairy products. Cheese and milk are two of the most common dairy products but these are also used as ingredients in various kinds of food like pasta sauces, yogurts, ice creams, coffee creamers, and a whole lot more. This entails that most Americans and Europeans take in dairy products as part of their daily diet because even their simplest foods contain these products from cows.

She compared this discovery with her native Chinese cultures usual eating habits. According to her, traditional Chinese do not take in any form of dairy products. When a mother has a baby and she doesnt have enough milk to feed her baby, she uses the services of a wet nurse, who is lactating mother, to feed her child. They do not feed their children with cows milk. The statistics of breast cancer in China is very low even if they are the most populous country in the world.

Chinese who first moved in to Western countries are also not at risk of developing breast cancer because they still stick to their traditional diet. The succeeding generations after them are likely to have breast cancer risk because they are adapting the Western form of diet. This shows that breast cancer risk doesnt run in the genes alone but also in the kind of foods we take in everyday.

After all of these observations, Prof. Jane Plant, PhD, CBE totally eliminated dairy products from her daily diet. She started reading food labels when she shops for food in the grocery to check whether the product she is buying contains any dairy produce in it. She noticed that the five lumps of her breast cancer started to shrink significantly after cutting off her dairy products intake.

Her doctors and colleagues are astonished by the miraculous healing she is undergoing. She shared her secret to one of her doctor friends but he was somewhat skeptical with the idea at first. However, the same doctor is now teaching his medical students and even his patients about the negative effects of dairy products in breast cancer development.

We salute Prof. Jane for this kind of discovery because of her willpower to continue living and eliminate her breast cancer for good. The National Cancer Institute hasnt released official information about the effects of dairy products in breast cancer development. But surely enough, the real life experience of a woman, one that belongs to the highly educated people, who once battled cancer, tells us that her discovery about dairy products is one of the best breast cancer prevention and healing you can learn from.

A Few Healthy Heart Tips

By admin | Mar 30, 2009

The temperature’s in the 70’s right now, which is right around what native Floridians call “cool weather”. Of course this would be a monstrous heat wave in Long Island, where I’ve spent most of my life.

A friend of mine who’s a former chef once said to me, “If you like warm weather, get a job in a kitchen. If you really want to burn up, work in a busy kitchen.”

Now I’m sure I could butcher as well as anyone he had working for him, and it wouldn’t have taken me long to learn how to use all the different knives and such, but I walked by the broiler one day, and I don’t know how those guys do it. That particular broiler ran at 900 degrees, which is how they get those marvelous steaks to you in a hurry. That was too hot for me.

Moving on to fitness, here are some heart health tips for the day.

1. You don’t have to be old to have a heart attack. By this I mean you don’t have to be 65 or older (though that is looking younger to me, every day), or considered senior, to have a heart attack. Heart attacks can and do strike at all ages, and the demographic is moving lower. The statistics for women are almost similar to men (heart disease is now the #1 cause of death in women, beating out breast cancer) and we lose 150,000 people a year, under age 65, to heart attacks.

2. What you eat is important. When foodies talk about eating the rainbow, they are on to something. Fresh fruit and vegetables come in all sorts of colors. The brighter the colors, the more more heart healthy anti-oxidants are present. You should eat a percentage of fresh fruits and vegetables raw. If you have a juicer, that works too.

3. If you’re past the age of thirty-five and experience some E.D., you might have some artery blockage. Have a cardiologist check this out immediately. Don’t wait for a yearly physical.

Another great thing you can do for your heart health is take pharmaceutical grade fish oil. Doctors might even be getting the message.

Doctors are now being advised by The National Institute For Health and Clinical Excellence to give fish oil to patients that have had heart attacks.

I agree that’s good advice, but it’s too little too late. Patients need fish oil before they have a cardiac event, which will help with prevention.

The benefits of enteric coated pharmaceutical grade fish oil are numerous, and are great for people of all ages. I was just reading about a professional baseball player who started taking fish oil for his aching joints. As a result, he’s returning to the game much sooner than expected.

Omega-3 fatty acids were found to cut the incidence of sudden death by heart attack by 45% by The National Institute For Health and Clinical Excellence, who I mentioned earlier.

So my question is, why would you wait until a person has a heart attack to start recommending it?

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome - What is the Psychological Aspect?

By admin | Mar 30, 2009

Historically, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) has had difficulty gaining credibility as an actual illness and not just a case of depression that lasts. More and more doctors are finally accepting CFS as a legitimate disease.

Over a million people suffer from CFS, mostly women, although all ages and races are affected. Women are diagnosed about 4 times as much as men but doctors think men don’t seek treatment as often as women for this condition.

CFS is often times misunderstood by by the public and even many doctors. If they give the condition any credibility at all, it’s generally to diagnose it as another condition. CFS in teens and children is a rare occurance and these groups report that they have the most difficulty in gaining understanding from their doctors, peers and parents.

The reason CFS is so hard to diagnose is because at this time there is no known cause. The two most accepted theories of the cause of this condition are: 1. It’s a psychological condition and 2. It’s a physiological condition. This article seeks to explore the psychological aspect.

It is difficult to make an accurate diagnosis of CFS because the symptoms are the same as those for several other illnesses like depression, schizophrenia, neurasthenia, bi-polar disorder and drug and alcohol abuse.

In keeping with the theory that CFS is a psychological condition, common treatments include: anti-depressants, anti-anxiety medications, cognitive hehavior therapy and moderate exercise, although too much exercise can actually make CFS worse.

People with CFS have reported that it’s very helpful for them to have a support group to talk to or an online chat group. Up to date treatment options are discussed, as well as having a sounding board with someone who’s gone through what you have.

Another beneficial tool for dealing with CFS is a combination of deep breathing and relaxation therapy.

For many, stress is a common CFS trigger. If this is the case for you, I highly recommend my High Blood Pressure program. This all natural program is designed to normalize blood pressure, regardless of whether or not you suffer from hypertension.

Cure Anxiety Attacks - Here’s How To Do It

By admin | Mar 30, 2009

Want to cure anxiety attacks? They are quite a stressful and scary experience to have to go through and its made all the more worse if it happens to be chronic and reoccurring. But no matter how desperate things seem, there is hope.

If you need solutions for this problem, there are several things you can consider trying. If you need some quick relief, I’ve got some tips which you will find useful:

1. The Breathing Technique

If you need to cure anxiety attacks, the first thing you should try using is the 7-11 breathing tip. What is it? It’s a very simple tip but don’t let that fool you, it’s quite effective. The 7-11 technique simply involves you changing your breathing patterns, in so doing you can calm yourself back down.

What you’re going to do is inhale for a count of 7 seconds, then exhale for a count of 11. If you can alter your breathing and make it more relaxed, the rest of your body will soon follow. So keep this rhythm up no matter how fast your heart is beating and you will regain your composure.

2. Stay In The Now Moment

Anxiety is usually due to one thinking excessively about the future and what might go wrong. In order to eliminate panic, it is therefore imperative to only think about what is going on in the present.

If you can clear your mind and make a sincere effort to only focus your thoughts on the present, it can go a long way for controlling your mental state.

While these tips will help some, they will not be enough to cure anxiety attacks, in order to do that, you are going to have to really find the root of the problem.

If you’re intent on seeing this through though, you can find some systems that will help you rework your thought patterns and thus alter the way you view things, the way you see the world and thus help you to transcend your old fear based mentality.

Acid Reflux, Heartburn - Symptoms and Treatments

By admin | Mar 30, 2009

People who suffer from recurring heartburn may not realize that it is frequently referred to as “Acid Reflux.” They might hear an ad or see a commercial for information about it and not understand how this might help them cure heartburn.

The more medical term “acid reflux” is used by professionals and doctors when talking about this all-too-frequent condition. Many people suffer from heartburn from time to time, but others may experience symptoms on a much more frequent or even daily basis. If you have any indications that you are a frequent or chronic sufferer from heartburn you should let your doctor know about this right away.

Sometimes people will become alerted or panic when they feel acute symptoms that can fool you into believing you are having a heart attack. Acid reflux is a burning sensation or a pressure (that can be painful) in chest, often very close to the heart

The pain can be very intense for some people until they find some relief. This condition is caused by acid coming from the stomach into the esophagus. The acid from the stomach enters the lower end of the esophagus. The stomach is designed to cope with the acid, but the esophagus is not designed to cope with the acid.

Acid Reflux Can Be Treated

Some people suffer the effects of acid reflux only from time to time, and these people can easily find some medications at the local pharmacy to cut down the suffering from the problem. Those people who feel pain often from this problem could have a urgent problem that should be treated by expert medical professionals.

These people will probably be advised to undergo some medical testing to determine the exact nature of the problem. There are specialized tests that can clearly indicate the problem for many people.

Once the doctor has complete information on the state of the esophagus and stomach, the doctor can prescribe treatment to avoid the distressing effects of this condition.

A change in diet is often enough for some people to combat these symptoms. Eliminating spicy foods or creamy, rich foods can reduce or eliminate the symptoms.

For some, this is all they have to do to take care of their acid reflux. However, other sufferers will need drugs or medications to keep acids from the stomach from damaging their esophagus further. Additional changes to your sleeping habits may also help relieve damage caused by acids escaping the stomach. The head of the bed should be raised a bit so that acids have a harder time escaping the stomach into the esophagus.

If lifestyle, diet, and sleeping conditions do not improve the symptoms, you my have a more serious form of Acid Reflux that could require surgery to cure.

Is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome linked to the stress response?

By admin | Mar 10, 2009

by Russell Stubbs

How does ME/CFS start?

There are numerous ways of developing Fatigue conditions, including Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome (PVFS), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) along with Fibromyalgia (FM). Some common causes include - viruses, bacterial infections, operations, vaccinations, etc. The cause can also be connected to a stressful incident or period in a person’s life. The common factor is that the person’s system is under stress.

What is happening when we are under stress?

As a result of entering this state we produce a cocktail of chemicals - including cortisol, adrenalin and noradrenalin. This powerful group of chemicals is also produced during the fight or flight response - this is the natural process that is triggered in reaction to a threat - either real or perceived.

Physiological changes take place during fight or flight

The sympathetic branch of the nervous system is responsible for a number of changes. Blood pressure and heart rate increase in order to bring additional fuel to the major muscles groups. Thyroid and blood sugar levels are affected. Functions that aren’t essential including digestion and immune system are shut down to allow increased energy for emergency systems.

Where’s the connection between the stress response and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

The initial virus, bug, trauma, vaccination etc. has already under put the system under stress. If there were other stressors present or the person was run-down at the time, the recovery period could be prolonged. If the recovery is slow this can be a cause for concern, which results in more stress. The immune system, which is already challenged, becomes depleted, further slowing the process of recovery.

Sufferers Search for Help

Sufferers typically seek help from their doctors who run tests for other ailments. The test results are negative but the symptoms persist. Sufferers often try alternative approaches. Sometimes these give temporary relief, but once again the symptoms return. People can easily lose trust in their body and energy levels. This further entrenches the stress - symptom - stress pattern.

Stress response over the long-term

The stress response is wearing on the system when experienced over the long-term. The chemistry produced to help us out of danger becomes toxic. The immune system is depleted and most other systems in the body are disrupted. Prolonged stimulation causes depletion of adrenalin levels. More fatigue and physical symptoms follow as a result of this dysregulation of stress chemistry.

Can it be all in the mind?

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a physical and debilitating illness affecting most bodily systems. It is certainly not all in the mind. However, the type of approaches to recovery that are purely physical, or that focus on specific symptoms are unlikely to work. What’s needed is a recognition that the triggers to these physiological responses take place in the mind. Until we address these patterns, a full and lasting recovery is not likely.

How can these cycles be broken?

Given the right tools it is possible to break free of these cycles relatively quickly. Recovery time, fortunately, is not relative to the duration of the illness. What’s needed is an insight into the damaging unconscious cycles, along with an understanding of the mind - body connection. New physical and cognitive strategies can then be introduced in order to influence the health in a positive way.

You are not broken!

Sufferers of fatigue related conditions can typically feel broken or flawed in some way. Although the physical symptoms can be so severe that it feels as if this is so, this is not the case. Human health is incredibly buoyant, it is just necessary to discover what is in the way. Once we can bring balance to the system, we can create the opportunity for energy to return and physical symptoms to naturally resolve.
